Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,
As SPW 2026 comes to a close, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who contributed to making this conference such an outstanding success.
This year's edition has exceeded our expectations in every respect. Welcoming more than 300 participants from around the world, together with 25 exhibitors, SPW2026 has confirmed its role as one of the leading international forums for the scientific community dealing with all the facets of the manifold studies and applications single photons, including their quantum applications.
The exceptional quality of the oral presentations and poster sessions has highlighted the vitality and excellence of the research carried out worldwide. Particularly encouraging has been the remarkable participation of students and young researchers, whose enthusiasm, creativity, and scientific excellence give us great confidence in the future of our field.
I would also like to sincerely thank our sponsors and institutional partners for their invaluable support. In particular, I wish to acknowledge my University of Naples Federico II for the hospitality at Campus San Giovanni, and my Department of Physics E. Pancini, the University of Salerno, the National Institute for Metrological Research (INRiM), the MIMIT Competence Center MedITech 4.0, the European Society for Applied Superconductivity (ESAS), and the IEEE Council on Superconductivity (IEEE CSC): their commitment has been fundamental to the success of this workshop.
A particularly meaningful moment of SPW2026 was the presentation of the awards dedicated to students and young researchers in memory of the late Professor Sae Woo Nam, one of the most distinguished scientists in our community. By recognizing excellence in the next generation of researchers, we also celebrated the extraordinary scientific legacy and human values that Professor Nam leaves to all of us.
I would like to express our appreciation to the magnificent City of Naples for hosting SPW2026. Naples has offered participants not only its extraordinary history, culture, and hospitality, but has also demonstrated how a city with such a unique heritage can fully embrace innovation and technological progress. It provides a powerful example of how science, technology, culture, and tradition can coexist while looking confidently toward the future.
Finally, I'd like to thank all the colleagues who allowed this fantastic result: my co-chair Francesco Saverio Cataliotti, Loredana Parlato, Carmine Attanasio, Alberto Porzio, Carla Cirillo, Martina Peluso, Diego Scarano and Mariachiara Lupi. A particular thank also to the SME SPICY, who helped us on the administrative side.
On behalf of the entire Organizing Committee, thank you for your scientific contributions, your active participation, and your friendship: your enthusiasm and commitment has made SPW2026 an unforgettable event.
We look forward to meeting you again at the next edition of SPW at Singapore.
With my best regards,
Giampiero Pepe
